The basic question which needs to be thrown out there is- Why do people shy away from filing taxes and declaring their incomes? Why most of Indians don’t want to pay taxes?
Why we don’t trust the government to use their taxes efficient and effectively?
Because the political parties are themselves unaccountable. When the bill was brought up in the Parliament to include political parties under the RTI. All the political parties, like a mafia system got together and pushed the bill out.
Political parties have a huge corporate backing to them. They Never acknowledge the donations received. Lobbying happens in India, but it’s not legal. When talked about making it transparent. It’s all talk.
The political- bureaucracy – corporate mafia control how the major chunk of economy works and they decide which decisions should be passed in Parliament.
Add to it there are many religious institutions, govt. Affiliated organisations which have a vice grip on the economy. They have properties , gold and assets all around the country. Not even an iota of accountability from them.
Taxes are used to enrich life of people and provide basic commodities infrastructure, opportunities and social structure.
The public education system is lethargic and the quality of education imparted is a joke. Where is the effort there? Where is the tax money in education?
We practically have a zero public health system. Isn’t it shameful that we are third highest generic medicine supplier and a have huge amount of medical tourism in the country. But the poor of the country is mugged by the hospital’s. Where is the tax expenditure on health? Why can’t we see it?
The law and order is broken. The police system has a redundant design, which works against the people rather than for the people. The judiciary is slow and in favor of the rich.
In spite of growing in terms of economy and sheer numbers. The growth does not trickle down. It’s stuck up under the asses of the rich elite class.
The blame is not on this one party. The blame is on the whole political system of India. We don’t have effective leadership left in the country. There is no intelligent opposition to the propaganda party aka BJP.
If the intent was to raise tax collection and get rid of black economy.
- First, bring the political parties under RTI.
- Make the religious institutions accountable.
- Make lobbying transparent.
- Spend the tax money for the people and show it in reality. Not on papers.
Trust is the cornerstone. If you have got that. Taxes will come in. Don’t coerce and oppress people. In your own language. Janta maaf nahi karegi.
