On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the Dalai Lama extended his greetings to people around the world and encouraged them to be compassionate and lead a meaningful life dedicated to the welfare of others. He stated that Lord Buddha’s teachings are focused on disciplining the mind to benefit sentient beings, and the combined practice of wisdom and compassion was at the core of his teachings.

The celebrations of Buddha Purnima were held in Dorje Drak Monastery in Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh. Dancers performed Tibetan dance forms at the monastery and many people from different walks of life joined in the festivities.

The Dalai Lama further said that when we become more considerate of others, we will be able to recognize our mutual dependency and the fact that all 8 billion people in the world today share the same desire to lead a happy and peaceful life. He urged his spiritual followers to be warm-hearted and to recognize that warmheartedness is the essential key to achieving peace and harmony in the world.
