The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed five-time former MLA Rajeev Bindal from Solan as the president of its Himachal Pradesh unit. This comes after the earlier president Suresh Kashyap resigned from the post citing personal reasons. Arun Singh, National General Secretary, BJP, made the announcement in a letter on Sunday.

In the same announcement, Siddharthan was appointed the organisational general secretary of the Himachal Pradesh unit and Pawan Rana of the Delhi unit.

Rajeev Bindal, who is known for his election management and organisational skills, had earlier headed the state unit as well in January 2020, but had to resign four months later. He had cited moral grounds as the reason for his resignation.

The BJP had suffered defeat in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections last year in which Congress returned to power winning 40 seats. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of the hill state.
