A Delhi Police officer, identified as Manoj Kumar Tomar, faced suspension and disciplinary actions subsequent to a recorded incident where he was observed attacking a small congregation offering namaz on a roadside. Circulating videos capturing the events displayed the officer attempting to disperse the group praying near a neighborhood mosque and using physical force against these individuals, including kicking and shoving. Following the spread of the footage, protests erupted demanding accountability for his actions.

In response to the outcry, MK Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi North), confirmed the suspension of the officer and informed the public that a departmental investigation was launched. In an attempt to maintain stability, additional security personnel were assigned to the area. The incident prompted critical reactions from political figures and the public alike. The Congress’ Delhi unit condemned the regrettable act, and former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi opposed the notion that the actions of a few could influence India’s compassionate reputation.

Namaz, typically conducted inside the mosque, was conducted outside on this occasion because the mosque was reportedly at full capacity. The situation escalated to a point where the officer and bystanders entered a physical altercation. Both the Congress and other opposition leaders, including suspended BSP MP Danish Ali, expressed their concerns over the violent incident and suggested it reflected a broader communal tension. Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed and National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq called for immediate action to rectify the misconduct and ensure such behavior does not reoccur.
