On the occasion of Earth Day today, Congress MLA Kewal Singh Pathania stated that the Sukhu Government of the state is laying emphasis on environment-friendly development. The Chief Minister is committed to make Himachal the first green state of the country and is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the maintenance of the environment and development go hand-in-hand. On the occasion of Earth Day, programs are being held to raise awareness among the public.

Pathania was addressing a program organized by ATC Shahpur, held at the premises of Government Senior Secondary School Boh in the Shahpur assembly constituency. ADC Kangra Saurabh Jassal was also present on this occasion.

Pathania and ADC Kangra observed paintings done by school children as part of Earth Day. Harshita Pathania and local school student Akshita Kaushal read poems about Earth Day and presented their views.

The MLA announced Rs 25,000 to Eco Club Boh and Rs 21,000 to the children of Government Senior Secondary School Boh who presented cultural programs. He also promised to provide funds for construction of additional building and toilet in Government Senior Secondary School, Boh.

Pathania further said that Milk Federation and Trout Fishery teams will survey Dharkandi soon to explore the possibilities of trout farming. He announced to install 2 solar lights at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Darini and to spend Rs.1.50 crore for the improvement of various roads in Dharkandi.

The MLA inaugurated a modern X-ray plant worth Rs.8 lakh at PHC Darini, which will benefit 12 thousand people of 32 villages of seven panchayats of Dharkandi. He also wished everyone for the Tal Mata Mela and listened to the problems of the people present.

Elsewhere, a painting, quiz and declamation contest was organized at Him Academy Public School at Vikas Nagar. Principal of the school, said students should plant a tree every year and encourage others to do so. Similar events were also takenup at various schools of the Hamirpur district today. Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya here organised an activity day on the theme.
