An executive engineer from the Tribal Welfare Engineering Department of Telangana, known as K Jaga Jyothi, faced the disgrace of being caught in a bribery scandal. On a Monday, the official was trapped by anti-corruption authorities while in the act of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 84,000. This dramatic arrest was made on the heels of a complaint from a contractor named Bodukarr Ganganna who detailed that Jyothi demanded a bribe to execute an already approved official task regarding a bill in Nizamabad.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) operatives orchestrated an undercover operation that culminated in the apprehension of Jyothi at a location in Hyderabad’s Masab Tank area. During the investigation, she was subjected to the phenolphthalein test, which her right-hand fingers failed by turning pink—a reaction triggered when someone has handled money or documents contaminated with the chemical. This test is commonly used to indicate the handling of items used in the bribery.

Social media platforms buzzed with a poignant video of K Jaga Jyothi in tears, the bribe money on her table serving as a stark symbol of her fall from grace. Despite her emotional display, the ACB maintained that Jyothi had acted with impropriety and dishonesty in administering her duties. The executive engineer is in custody, awaiting her presentation before a court in Hyderabad, while further investigation into the case continues.
