Ride-hailing platform Ola has unveiled its intentions to revolutionize urban mobility by expanding its e-bike services to Delhi and Hyderabad. This decision comes on the heels of a highly successful pilot program in Bengaluru. Ola’s e-bike taxis are designed to be an affordable and eco-friendly alternative for daily commuters, starting at just ₹25 for 5 km. With an aggressive rollout plan, the company has set a target to deploy a fleet of 10,000 electric vehicles across these cities, further solidifying their footprint in the burgeoning market of eco-conscious transportation.

At the core of this ambitious expansion lies a commitment to sustainability, with Ola’s CEO, Hemant Bakshi, emphasizing the potential of electrification to bring affordability and new opportunities within the mobility sector. The e-bike service aims to provide additional income streams for gig-economy workers, while simultaneously addressing the environmental impact of urban transport. This strategic move by Ola reinforces its vision to facilitate penetration in the Indian market with a focus on electrification, aiming to reach a broader demographic.

The comprehensive plan entails not just the introduction of more e-vehicles but the establishment of an extensive network of 200 charging stations in Bengaluru, with additional infrastructure to follow in other operational cities. By the end of the year, Ola aims to extend its services nationwide, presenting a unique value proposition that balances consumer affordability, driver earnings, and company revenue. In sync with its growth stride, Ola has announced a positive EBITDA in its India Mobility Business for FY23, all set to become the nation’s largest EV two-wheeler fleet owner, marking a milestone in their journey towards sustainable and accessible commuting.
