In a momentous move to alleviate financial pressure on households, particularly benefitting women, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a reduction in domestic gas cylinder prices by ₹100 on International Women’s Day. This significant decision was part of the government’s dedication to ‘Ease of Living’ and ensuring a healthier environment for families. The announcement came alongside an extension of the ₹300 subsidy per LPG cylinder under the Ujjwala Yojana for poor women into the next fiscal year.

As the nation marked International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Modi took to social media to commend the resilience and triumphs of Indian women, affirming his government’s commitment to women’s empowerment through initiatives in various sectors. However, opposition party members raised skepticism over the timing of the price cut, attributing it to the nearing elections rather than genuine concern. Despite the criticism, BJP leaders voiced support, highlighting the benefits this decision holds for the financial and health welfare of women.

Following the announcement, government sources stated that the new LPG cylinder prices would be effective from midnight. Other political reactions came from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressing gratitude for the welfare decision, BJP chief JP Nadda commending the move for financial relief, and Union Minister Smriti Irani extending Women’s Day greetings on behalf of mothers and sisters hailing the decision. Simultaneously, commercial LPG gas cylinders experienced a price hike as announced by Oil Marketing Companies on March 1, with prices differing across major cities in India.
