In a momentous event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, setting into motion a major infrastructural advancement that aims to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion between Delhi and Gurugram along National Highway-48. The launch was part of a broader initiative where PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation for 112 national highway projects across India with a combined worth of Rs 1 lakh crore.

The 19-km completed stretch of the Dwarka Expressway, constructed at a cost of approximated Rs 4,100 crore, now stands as India’s first elevated highway. This strategic expressway is envisaged to bolster Delhi’s connectivity with Gurugram, also enhancing access to the IGI Airport via a direct route. Major projects like the Urban Extension Road-II in Delhi and various sections of national highways in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were also initiated.

With a total cost estimation of Rs 9,000 crore, the Dwarka Expressway features an eight-lane elevated urban expressway inclusive of India’s first single-pillar flyover stretching across a 19 km corridor in Haryana and extending 10 km into Delhi. PM Modi’s inauguration encompasses two significant packages that include an urban road tunnel and elevated sections that signify cutting-edge infrastructure with sophisticated safety measures. The entire project not only aims to decongest traffic but also seeks to stimulate socio-economic growth, creating job opportunities and thriving trade and commerce across regions.
