The political scenario of Hyderabad was dealt a tragic blow with the sudden demise of 37-year-old Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLA Lasya Nandita in a grievous road accident. Lasya Nandita, a significant political presence and first-time MLA, met with a catastrophic incident when her vehicle spun out of control and smashed into the road divider. Despite being promptly rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, casting a pall of sorrow over her associates and constituents alike.

Prior to her passing, Lasya had eerily escaped another mishap just ten days earlier in Narkatpally, although suffering minor injuries at that time. A much graver outcome had arisen from the earlier accident, which grievously took the life of her home guard on February 13 as they traveled to a rally. As a dedicated servant to the public, Lasya had begun her political journey by serving as a corporator from Kavadiguda since 2016. Her ascension to the role of MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment in the 2023 Telangana assembly elections had marked a significant milestone in her career.

The unfortunate event that led to her death occurred in the early morning of February 23, 2024, when her SUV collided with infrastructure on the Outer Ring Road Patancheru. Following the crash, harrowing visuals captured at the scene revealed a devastating head injury that claimed Nandita’s life before emergency services could be availed. The impact severely injured the driver, who thankfully survived and was taken to an emergency centre for urgent care. This accident follows closely after her father G. Sayanna’s demise last year, after which Lasya shouldered the responsibility of continuing his political legacy, succeeding by securing an election victory in November 2023. Mourning the loss of Lasya, senior BRS leader KT Rama Rao lamented on the calamity. Meanwhile, the MLA’s remains were taken to the local Amedha Hospitals, with a post-mortem scheduled at the Patancheru area hospital, as the community reflects on the tragic end to a promising young politician’s life.
